It is just what Google uses to index sites. It automatically visits pages by following links and stores the pages in its cache as it goes. You'll see some for other search engines too. I guess the only thing to be aware of is anything you say here can show up in search results. If you want I could set up a section that you can only see if you log in. I'm not going to do that for the entire forum though because that would make it a lot harder for new people to find this place in searches.Indy Anna Jones wrote:What are "google bots" and what should we be aware/beware of?

Re: Welcome to the Golf Sim Clubhouse Forum
Well if anybody's interested in what I have to say it'd be a happy switch!
I do have another question, Brian. Where do I find my profile and post an avatar, etc?

Indy, I hope it's OK for me to answer as I just went through the same thing. Click on your name just above your post count, then click on User Control Panel.
Re: Welcome to the Golf Sim Clubhouse Forum
Indy, after you click on User Control Panel, you will see a profile tab, which will take you to where you will see the avatar tab. I like how nice and smooth this site works!

Re: Welcome to the Golf Sim Clubhouse Forum
Thanks, I found it.
Brian, I see no need to limit access unless we start getting pornbots/otherbots posting in here. Are you (or Dar) approving registrants or is that automatic? That would be the only thing I would have any concerns about as we've always been pretty much "G" rated on here.

Indy,
At the moment, we are not pre-approving registrations. The confirmation code and requirement to have a valid email address to activate the account should keep us pretty clean from "bot" registrations. Along with Brian, Stan Nehilla and I are moderators. If we see any malicious or undesirable posts , we will zap them.

Re: Welcome to the Golf Sim Clubhouse Forum
I can make the validation question harder if they start figuring it out and if we absolutely have to I can set for approval required. I don't expect any real tests of this until the site starts showing up in Google. Like Dar said there's three of us that can delete things so hopefully one of us will be online fairly quickly after anything gets through.
Re: Welcome to the Golf Sim Clubhouse Forum
The security question was pretty easy, but thank you Brian for not putting captcha (sp?). I can never read it right.
