Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
well, Cutters Peg may not have been the most sophisticated course we have played, but it certainly provided us with some terrific scoring and competition. I couldn't repeat my efforts of Rd 1 and Tarheel's almost perfect (17 red numbers) round saw him take out the Stroke honours in Rd 2. Randy's excellent round of 56 manged to see him post a very good result in both the Handicap and Stableford events, sharing these honours with Tarheel, just pipping Juan by one in both categories.
Overall, results across all three categories are very close. So, off to the beautiful Apple Isle of Tasmania, to see if we can get some separation.
Cheers
Brad
PS: I don't know about you, but I reckon I have never seen a better background than Apple Isle's, and the way Voyen has used it is spectacular.

Rd 3
A couple missed putts, a couple chip-in's and a bogie on 18 was all I could muster this round.

Re: Old Timers Competition
Just watched Randy's Rd 3 with Tarheel's and my rounds. Not much in it, except my putter was a lot more friendly than theirs.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
here's my Rd 4 at Apple Isle.
I was going along swimmingly, as the English would say, and then I got a bit greedy and put myself into some positions that were less than favourable. You can get carried away with the shortness of the course off the red tees, as so many holes appear to be good eagle chances. Sometimes, however, discretion is the better part of valour, as I found out. Thankfully, I didn't do too much damage.
There is a VERY low score out there, if you concentrate for all 18 holes.
Cheers
Brad
PS: 18 red numbers only count as a perfect game off the black tees.

Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
we have been very fortunate over the years to have many great designers provide us with a plethora of fantastic courses. Names like Steve Holden, Voyen Koreis, Daniel Higgins III, Warren '"Aussie Rules" Lamshed, Steve Opfer, Terry Armstrong, Jay Johnson, just to name a few.
But there is one guy out there who flies under the radar when it comes to great designers. He has produced 10 eighteen-hole courses and one Par 3 course for us to enjoy. Not only is he a top designer, he is a top bloke, who is going through a very difficult period at the moment.
Of course, I am referring to our good mate, Charlie Roberts. We are all aware of Charlie's current plight, so I thought it would be nice, for our next tournament, to play some of Charlie's courses, as a testament to his fantastic designing ability. Having looked at all 10 full courses, I struggled to pick four that stood out. But, I have decided that, to show Charlie's calibre and versatility as a designer, we will play the following courses.
Chickamauga
Royal Harbour
Purgatory Creek
Cuchulainn
I will post the conditions at a later date, but I can tell you, to fully appreciate all of these superb courses, all four rounds will be played off the black tees.
Cheers
