New PC

Post by Polslad »

My daughter informs me that I need a new PC, tells me my 12 year old one is a bit slow!
Will PGA run on a modern new up to date system?

Hate to lose a good old friend.

I'm in the same boat David. My PC is 10 years old and with support for windows 10 ending in October I am also in the market for a new PC. I just bought a new monitor and that make a big difference in the quality of how PGA looked. I don't know if PGA runs in Windows 11. I would hold on to your old one just in case. I still have an old XP computer that still runs but I don't go online with it. I'm sure somebody will have the answer to your question for the both of us. Any designs in the works?

Technology baffles me.
I have an IT guy, but he's in school all day, he's 9!

No new designs on the horizon, I don't think there's a desire or an audience for anyone anymore to download them.
I did lay Carnoustie out and built a few holes, but...........

TO ALL IT MAY CONCERN
I have a 2and a half year old gaming computer with Windows 11 installed. PGA2000 runs fine in Windows XP Service Pack 3. I did install it before installing anything else. Don't know if that makes any difference but there it is. Currently playing season #20 this is my 3rd season on my new computer.
It does crash from time to time. If PGA2000 won't open turn off "Core Isolation". That should fix it. Memory Integrity and or Smart Screen may also cause problems but usually its Core Isolation needs turned off. Look up on google how to get into any of those security areas.

I've worked with computers for many years. Probably the simplest solution for this day and age is to keep your old computer with PGA2K on it and use it as a stand alone computer. Don't connect it to the internet once Windows 10 support runs out in October this year. You could still download (and upload) from your new computer and transfer it across using a USB stick or any other removable media.

Just what sort of impact are we looking at when windows 10 goes off?

I uploaded a couple of courses by providing a dropbox link. Of course, you need a dropbox account to save and download anything. If you don't have dropbox, you can get 2 GB free. Just go to their pricing page. The free offer is at the bottom.

I tried downloading from dropbox after signing up awhile back and it didn't work. I'd have to try again. Jim I just recently played Caribou Crossing as the host course for the Canadian Open. It rated as your most recent A lister and highest rated course of yours I've played yet :D
