Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
finally managed to find some time to play my Rd 2 at Whiskey Run (while Robyn and our 2 year old grand-daughter are having a nap). I have to confess that, while this was not one of my best games, as far as general play goes, I have rarely had a better game with the putter. Still can't figure out Hole 15 though.
Here are the Rd 2 and 3 scores and results, with the good Dr Mentzer looking almost uncatchable in the Handicap and Stableford events. (Going to have to have a close look at your handicap Goran! Actually, after your next four rounds, your handicap will be set the same was as Tarheel's and mine are. That should bring you back to the field.)
Hopefully get my final round at Gros Morne done tonight and then we can all move on to the next challenge, which Goran will set this time.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition
Bashed together Rd 4 while the girls were still asleep. Can't believe I went from a putting guru to a putting goose in one round. Missed some absolute tiddlers in this round. That's golf!
Some really close results in Rd 4, with Tarheel taking Stroke honours, Goran, Handicap honours (just) and a three way tie for the Stableford title.
Not surprisingly, Goran cleaned up again in the overall Handicap and Stableford events. I think he's going to need a bigger trophy cabinet soon.
Well played all. I hope you enjoyed Whiskey Run and Gros Morne Golf Clubs.
Where to now Dr Mentzer?
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
here's a graph of how our handicaps are moving since the inception of the Old Timers Competition. Not surprisingly, Goran's marked improvement in his Stroke scores has seen his handicap changing rapidly. This improved scoring ability is the reason behind his dominance of the Handicap and Stableford events. However, as you get better, scoring in these events becomes more difficult. To add to this, after the next tourney, his handicap will be based on his best 8 scores from his last 20 rounds and not just an average across all rounds played to date. As you can see from what happened to Tarheel and myself when we reached 20 rounds (around the middle of the graph), it makes a considerable difference to your handicap.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next few tourneys.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition
Thanks Brad.
Just a note guys, that Robyn and I will be off again for about a month from the middle of May, as my best mate, who lives in Canberra, is turning 70 and we will use the opportunity when going that far south to catch up with a lot of relatives in different parts of south-eastern Australia.
Hopefully, we will be able to get one or two tourneys in before then and perhaps one played while we are away, as I am keen to keep the competition moving and players interested.
Over to you Goran to advise what our next challenge will be.
Cheers

Another Fine Mess Production Tour
RND1 - Citadel - Black Mild Normal Pin1
RND2 - Absinthe - Black Med Normal Pin2
RND3 - Australian Links - Black Med Normal Pin2
RND4 - Citadel - Black Medium Normal Pin2
Four rounds on three courses, by the designing giants DanO and Voyen of JN5 and early JN6. Both artists in painting, writing and music, which shows in their courses. I am thinking of the horizon and the free spirit design, they are laid out like real courses with good strategy but the bold elevations make them special and scary in a good way.
First and final rounds will be played on their co-design Citadel, but 2nd and 3rd round on one of their own courses. Not their most "famous" ones this time like Apple Isle, Cocos Island, Biscayne Bay or Spyglass.

Re: Old Timers Competition
Hi Guys,
here's my Rd 1 at Citadel. Was going along quite nicely on the front nine and then book-ended the back nine with bogies. On the tenth the machine decided it was time I flubbed a shot, despite hitting it perfectly, and on the 18th was tricked by a rather dubious pin position. This course is a great challenge. Not really looking forward to Rd 4 in medium winds.
Played with Goran, who again notched up a good Handicap score and lots of Stableford points. He's going to take some beating again!
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition
Watched our rounds Brad, you outplayed me on the F9 but I won B9 by 1 shot thanks to your unlucky flub on the 10th. You did not powerdrive I think, but was always a bit longer than me but sometimes in rough while I landed in fairway.
