It's been over 30 years since Merion hosted a major. I'm very interested to see this course for the first time (I don't recall if I"ve seen it before). I hope the USGA lets them keep their wicker baskets on top of the flag sticks instead of flags.

I've been toying with the idea for Merion for a while. Been having a hard time mapping it out. Eastward Ho! has also caught my attention. Frankly, I'd love to see Polslad try his hand at Merion East. ;) But we'll see what he thinks.

Is this any help? Check out the course tour.

Ha Ha!
I actually had Merion laid out and started on it about 3/4 years ago, even asked Terry for a tutorial on how to achieve the 'rolled' bunkers look.
Couldn't decide on libraries and textures to acheive the feel of the historic old lady.
Just checked all my archive stuff, looks like nothing from then made it when I switched PC's earlier in the year.
Not sure I want to start a new project so soon after Castle Stewart, these things tend to taske over your ever waking moment!

Who knows, having it up there on TV this week might get the old juices flowing, with creative suggestions from our other members?

Loving the course. Brutal

Have been looking at updating one of my earlier attempts, Muirfield, to reflect this years Open Championship.
I have the original plot.

Seeing how the USGA was able to prepare Merion for the US Open gives me some hope that some day the US Open will return here in Columbus at Scioto C.C. Scioto C.C. has hosted 5 championships and is scheduled to host its 6th The senior U.S. Open in 2016.

Here I am building an 8,000 yard course, and yet this little 6,996 yard "pitch 'n putt" is winning against the players. I've never seen this course until this week, and honestly with the soft conditions, I expected at least -7 or -8! Then again, those par 3's are brutal! How about those last 3 holes? Wow! Someone could be a shot behind going into 16, make 3 pars and win the US Open . I love the US Open and the Open Championship for one simple reason....... the pros look like us when we play!!

I know the fairways were narrow and the ruff was brutal but it seemed that putting was where they lost the scores. Never seen so many putts missed inside ten yards. I was wondering how some of the top ten women golfers would of done. Even with the same tees. Maybe I'm all wet but I think a Park or Kim would of been in the top ten. What you guys think?

I haven't seen the women play in about 3 years. I went to an LPGA event about 5 years ago here near Muirfield Village at a course I may make named Tartan Fields. Its simular to Arciada Bluffs course on this sim. Not as hilly but very undulated and lots of tall fescue. The women are very good and more accurate off the tees. That being said I think seeing Annika and Michelle Wie in past mens events have proven for the most part that they would struggle to make the cut.
