Ideas for new courses

I was wondering if any of you hotshot course architects had considered designing any of the following courses:

1. A fantasy course containing the 18 best holes found in the world as might be found in this list:

2. Pine Valley

3. Cypress Point

4. TPC Sawgrass

5. Bandon Dunes

6. The Stadium Course at PGA West

7. The Prince Course at Princeville

I think any of them would be great especially #1

Yes, but that doesn't help us that use WGC 2011 as a pc game and those of us that use these Red Chain courses for our simulators.

As far as the courses released, it primarily has to do with what courses have LiDAR and the type of vegetation on the course. Courses with LiDAR available are a lot easier to do because if the data is good enough you can just import the elevations and only make minor adjustments to the terrain. As for type of vegetation, courses with a lot of small objects like the grass on links courses are considered much harder to do in this game do to a lack of good tools for doing so and making it look good. Hopefully in the next version of the software this will be much easier.

Okay, where to you find this LiDAR data for individual courses? Are you saying that the courses on my list would be too difficult to create?

No, they can be done. I'm just giving you an explanation for why they haven't been done...the greater difficulty involved. LiDAR is generally scanned by state or local government so there's no central place to find it all like there is for the traditional lower resolution DEMs on the USGS site. There are a few national sites like http://www.opentopography.org/, http://csc.noaa.gov/digitalcoast/, http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ but none of them have anywhere near all the data out there. Your best bet is to Google the area you are looking for (state, county, or city) along with the keyword LiDAR and look through the results to see if you can find anything. For example LiDAR for Wisconsin is available for about 20 counties now from the Wisconsin View website: http://relief.ersc.wisc.edu/wisconsinview/form.php Hope that helps.
