In the 1992 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Gene Sauers birdied all four playoff holes - - - and still lost the tournament to John Cook. Cook birdied three holes and chipped in on the fourth for a winning eagle.

In 1972, the town council of St. Andrews, Scotland declared American amateur legend Bobby Jones a freeman of the town. At the council's request, the 10th hole of the famed Old Course was renamed Bobby Jones.

The first permanent and still-existing golf club in the United States is St. Andrews Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. It was formed by the Apple Tree Gang in 1888.
