I definitely prefer putting to chipping; I have much better control with the putter and you don't tend to get those ridiculous rubs of the green (ie bad bounces.) I've been known to use the driver off the green a time or two also. Did I say off the green? I meant on the green!

Using a driver to putt is like using any other club to do something it was not designed to do. There are times you need to be creative to get the most out of your 14 sticks and grind out an otherwise difficult round. Now where I think it gets tricky is when you tear up the course to use that creativity. But that is the fun of a COMPUTER SIMULATION - when I have just made 3 bogies in a row and I am looking a a 50 foot putt for my fourth then I can take my driver and blast the ball from the green into the OB area some 300 yards away and then take a mulligan and hit the shot  If I did that in real life I would have my membership revoked. As I think about it that is probably why I play more cyber golf these days - safer on the PATRONS  !!!

I was playing for real one time maybe 20 years ago, was stinking up the course and decided my old putter had outlived it's usefulness. I was about 60 yards from the green, and I guess I chopped down on the ball just right because it ended up a high shot, came down over the pin at about an 85 degree angle and just stuck like it had been glued. I ended up with a 4' putt for a double. I tried doing it again a few times and couldn't even get close to hitting a decent shot. Not something to be proud of, definitely, but it sure was a pretty shot.
