Sauerkraut

Post by Robert D. Wagers »

I am looking for some help with a recipe for Polish Sausages and Sauerkraut. I have never cooked it, so I am starting from scratch.
Does anyone have any instructions or a recipe I could follow?
The simple approach would be best for a novice like me.
Thanks in advance!

Wage,
I found this easy crock pot recipe.
I checked it with my wife and she agrees that it's easy.

Ingredients

* 1 bag or can sauerkraut (At least 1 lb.)
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 1 link Polish sausage cut into 1 1/2" pieces
* 1 onion, sliced

Directions

1. In a medium bowl, combine the sauerkraut and brown sugar. then place in slow cooker. Arrange the sausage and onion over the sauerkraut.
2. Cook on high for two hours, check for dryness, adding some water or beer if necessary, then reduce to low setting, and cook on low for two more hours.

PS: If you go on line and Google Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut you'll get hundreds of recipes.
My ethnicity is Polish & Slovak and I know my family always cooked the sausage in the sauerkraut w/beer. :bg:

Thanks Stan, that sounds pretty easy and hard to "screw-up!" LoL
I had someone on facebook recommend placing brats in a disposable aluminum pan and cook with Butter, onions, various bell-peppers and a bottle of dark beer. Cook them in an oven until the sausages become plump or split-apart. Eat with saukraut. I guess that sounds like good way to cook them!
I can cook some Cajun food but German recipes I have no experience.

Thanks again!
