http://www.geocomm.com/ This leads to GeoComm. You'll have to set up an account, but it's free, so don't worry. They are also really decent about what they do with the email address you give them. I don't think I'm ever once gotten a promotion or something of that ilk from them.

Our own Brian Z has written an excellent set of tutorials on how to get the most of this. You'll two other programs, Terrain Assist and 3DEM, but I believe he provides links there, and as far as I know, they are still completely fine. There's a bit of a learning curve, but quite simply, BZ's process works.

Alex - (ADC) Why would we mind you posting your own thread with updates? Please do. I'll keep tabs on your progress as will others. I'd like to see a course you've designed.

SteveHorn, I meant starting my own thread. I'd never take over someone's thread like that.

Polsad, what did they do to it? Lol! Trimming the fairway that close to the cliff is like turning a brilliant, nerve-defying shot into a roller coaster of a !@#$% kind of hole.

I approve, lol.

Does look a bit extreme, all the contours running down towards the cliff.
The 8th was always a second shot hole, has been since the course was laid out.
Jack Nicklaus's favourite shot in golf.
Now it's a first shot hole too.
Is it better?
Traditionalist would say no. Changing classic designs to suit the modern game.
Personally, I think standing over a 2nd shot of 170 yards plus across a ravine to a tiny green is enough, we don't need the roller coaster ride of keeping your first shot on the fairway.
Golf should be about rewarding good shots and penalising poor ones, not tricking up courses to provide car crash TV.

Oh OK, I remember they did that for the 2010 US Open. I thought they moved the fairway back to the normal position after that though. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

Very first rough draft of the next hole, and a overhead of the two land plots.
The lighter sea texture is just to contain the point count in the particilar area, will be deleted later.
